FAQ
How can counselling help? Counselling provides a safe space for you to share difficult emotions and it aims to deal with and overcome issues that are causing emotional pain. Counselling also provides you with support for an array of life challenges. Counselling does not make your problem go away. It is a process where you will work with your counsellor to explore a more effective and healthier coping mechanism with the aim to help you feel better.
Who will be my Counsellor? All counsellors are well-prepared and are completing requirements for their Master Program of Counselling and Psychology. Our team of counsellors-in-training are closely supervised by their clinical supervisor who has years of experience gathered from private practice and government settings.
How many counselling sessions do I need ? Everyone’s needs and requirements are different in terms of the issue at hand and therapy goals. Some may be able to self-manage after 5 to 6 sessions while some will see counselling as part of their self-care journey and continue counselling once a month. It is noteworthy that for the first few sessions, it is recommended to be weekly and subsequent sessions’ frequency will be based on your counsellor’s recommendation.
This is my first counselling session, what should I expect? To understand why you are seeking therapy, the initial session is for the counsellor to gather information to get to know you better. You may also experience a range of emotions from sharing unpleasant aspects of your life but that is okay. We encourage you to be open in sharing your problems or your feelings. Have realistic goals and remember that change will take time and therapy is an ongoing process
How to ensure the quality and confidentiality of the session? The Counselling services are provided by Counselors-in-Training who are completing their Masters of Counselling and Psychology. The Counselors-in-Training work under the direction of the Counselling Practicum and are supervised by qualified Clinical Supervisors from Singapore Counselling Centre. The Counselling services offered are in accordance with the Code of Ethics of the Singapore Association for Counselling and Academy of Certified Counsellors.
What is the payment, refund and reschedule policy? The payment for the counselling session will be collected before the start of the counselling session. Clients will not be allowed to begin the counselling session if payment has not been made. All payments are non-refundable once the session commences. If you need to reschedule an appointment, please notify us at least 48 hours prior to your scheduled time so we may be able to offer your appointment to someone else. For notice period less than 48 hours, a full fee will be charged for missed appointments or no-show cancellations. Please note that this is a standard practice in the counselling industry.
